About Bone Grafting

Bone repair and regeneration is best facilitated by using bone grafts. The use of bone grafting is a critical link to facilitate repair, healing and recovery of bony defects. Bone grafts provide a means to fill the void created by the degenerated or damaged bone. Additionally, the graft facilitates revascularization which is also essential to bone growth. The graft also provides the interim structure or scaffold for the surrounding bone tissue as the regenerated bone eventually replaces it. The graft will eventually be replaced by bone in a timed resorption process. The regenerated bone continues to provide more of the structure and support of the original bone tissue. Within time, the bone graft will be resorbed by the surrounding tissue and totally replaced with the regenerated bone tissue.
